Finnur Karlsson (IS)
Finnur Karlsson graduated with a bachelors degree in composition from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2012, where his main teachers were Úlfar Ingi Haraldsson and Atli Ingólfsson. Finnur currently lives in Copenhagen, where he studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. He is scheduled to graduate from RDAM with a masters degree in the spring of 2015. His main
teachers at RDAM are Hans Abrahamsen and Niels Rosing-Schow.
Finnur regularly performs with various bands and choirs, most notably with the balkan band Orphic Oxtra, which has released two albums, and the chamber choir Staka in Copenhagen. Finnur’s music has been performed by ensembles like Iceland Amateur Symphony Orchestra, Ventus, Decoda, Staka, Caput and Nordic Chamber Soloists. Finnur’s music has also been featured on festivals like Við Djúpið, Ung Nordisk Musik, Pulsar, Upp rís úr rafinu and Sonic festival. Finnur is a composer in residence at the Skálholt Summer Concerts music festival in 2015. Finnur is, along with Halldór Smárason, Haukur Þór Harðarson and Petter Ekman, a member of the composer collective Errata. Among the collective’s next projects is the release of an album with music by it’s members.
