Gerta Raidma (b. 1995) is from Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. She started learning the piano and wrote her first small piano pieces when she was 7 years old. In 2016 she began her Bachelor degree studies in composition with Helena Tulve at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. She also sings in the award-winning Estonian chamber choir Collegium Musicale. Lately her main sources of inspiration have been psychology and nature. Raidma has won multiple competitions for young composers in Estonia. Her choir piece ‘je suis’ was commissioned by the festival Estonian Music Days 2018 as a prize for winning the EMD Young Composer Competition in 2017 with her piece ‘I dance with my thought of you in the freezing wind’ for small ensemble. ‘je suis’ was also one of the two recommended works in the category for composers under 30 years old at the 66th International Rostrum of Composers in 2019. Raidma has also participated at the highSCORE New Music Festival in Italy and attended a masterclass by Christopher Theofanidis.
