The string quartet TEMA was established in the fall of 2012 in Tampere. Thereafter TEMA has held concerts regularly in Finland f.ex. in Oulu, Savonlinna, Tampering Festival and Encanto Festival. TEMA has also hosted as house quartet Klassisen musiikin klubi (Classical Music Club) in Tampere 2016-2019 having many guests like as Sami Junnonen and Eva Alkula. All four musicians in the quartet are professional musicians and work as musicians and music teachers nowadays in Tampere, Oulu and Jyväskylä. The ensemble has practiced in chamber music courses in the lead of i.a. the musicians from the Uusi Helsinki quartet, Petteri Poijärvi, Mark Gothoni, Jukka Rautasalo, Miguel da Silva and Ralf Gothoni. 2015 TEMA had Baltian Tour where they played finnish music from Jean Sibelius, Joonas Kokkonen and Roope Mäenpää. The Finnish Cultural Foundation supported the tour and also has supported one year of the Klassisen musiikin klubi.
The musicians of TEMA share the passion for chamber music, working together and especially the drive to find different nuances. TEMA’s classical quartet repertoire includes quartettos by Shostakovits, Haydn, Sibelius and Dvořák, but the quartet has expanded its repertoire by co-operating with singers, other instrumentalists and contemporary composers.
